‘Slender Shoulders,’ a play by Fourth Party Playhouse, is set for its official premiere on February 23.
The play will be showing at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre for 2pm and 6pm.
‘Slender Shoulders’, which is written, produced and directed by Olalekan Adeniyi, tells the tale of love, lust and heartbreak.
It focuses on the life of a young woman who loses her cousin to the bullet of enemy soldiers in Liberia, her war-torn country.
In an attempt to survive, she has no choice but to leave the love of her life and escape to neighbouring Nigeria with her only surviving aunt and younger cousin as refugees.
The play chronicles her struggles for adaptability in her new environment and how she intends grappling with memories from her past.
Through the play, Adeniyi beams light on some of the ills of the society back then in the 90s — ranging from the abuse of power and insensitivity of military rulers.
Adeniyi, the founder and in-house director of the playhouse, also examined the plague of the dreaded HIV/AIDS virus during the period.
Other plays from the stable of the Fourth Party Playhouse staged, over the years, include: ‘Pinch of Salt’, which was staged last year at Terra Culture; ‘Tale of The Crab’, staged in 2018 at the National Theatre, ‘One-sided Coin’ in 2017 at Agip Recital hall.
