Media mogul and television producer Oprah Winfrey is said to be “actively thinking” about running for the US presidency in 2020.
According to CNN, two of her close friends have confirmed her possible ambition.
Meanwhile, Gayle King, her best friend and confidante, said on Tuesday that Winfrey is “very intrigued” about the idea.
King’s comments came after Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globe awards threw up speculations that she might be considering venturing into politics.
Speaking on ‘CBS This Morning’, King said Oprah’s past position that she was not interested in running for president remained unchanged.
“I do think she’s intrigued by the idea, I do think that,” King said.
“I also know that after years of watching ‘The Oprah (Winfrey) Show’ you always have the right to change your mind. I don’t think at this point she’s actually considering it.”
Following Winfrey’s speech on sexual harassment and assault in Hollywood, social media lit up about a possible presidential run.
Republican President Donald Trump would gladly face Winfrey in the 2020 presidential race, a White House spokesman said on Monday.
Winfrey is one of the US’ wealthiest women and has been long associated with the Democratic party and fundraising.
