Kwesé TV, a satellite and broadcasting network, has launched in Nigeria with three different subscription plans.
The launch held at Renaissance Hotel, GRA, Lagos, Thursday, October 19.
Kwesé says it aims at “pioneering ground-breaking payment options that offer flexibility and convenience” in the industry.
Joseph Hundah, president and CEO of Econet Media, shared with TheCable Lifestyle how the company intends to attract Nigerians from other pay TV providers.
“Well, I think the important thing is not exactly to lure people from other providers. The idea is to have an offering that can bring new people into Pay TV, especially for those who never considered going into pay TV before. Basically with the flexible payment methods and our content offering.
“Of course naturally, some people have changed from other platform into our platforms. There is nothing wrong with that, but it is not a deliberate strategy of ours.”
Speaking on the original productions of Kwese, Hundah said, “we are creating local contents around our sports side. Sound Sultan would be doing our basketball shows in the mornings and a lot more that will happen”.
On how Kwesé TV intends to manage competition, he said, “the consumer benefits from competition, prices come down, more variety, we are really encouraged by competition. What is important for us is to focus on our own business. How we intend to focus on our own business, our plans, strategies.
“If you manage your business and strategies properly, you don’t need to worry about competition, competition takes care of itself. We are happy with our content; we worked really hard to get premium content on our platform. It is about creating differentiation and customer service.
“In five years time, our ambition is to be the number one media business in Africa and across the world, and I think we are on our way to achieving that.”
In a speech, while addressing the attendees, Elizabeth Amkpa, general manager of Kwesé TV Nigeria, spoke about the subscription plans.
“With Kwesé, content is not only accessible through our multi-platform service, but also through a revolutionary payment model. We have pioneered ‘pay-as-you-watch’ subscription packages for premium programminng which enables consumers to purchase three and seven day subscriptions at N990 and N1,850 respectively, as well as a 30 day subscription option for only N6,275,” she said.
