Harrison Tare Okiri, Nigerian singer and songwriter whose stage name is Harrysong, has revealed why he failed to renew his contract with Five Star Music.
On Monday, TheCable Lifestyle learned from the artiste that his decision to move on from Five Star Music was born out of a need to “grow”, having matured in the music industry.
“When the contract expired, I aspired to grow to be able to express myself in another light. This is my vision. It’s a dream I had years ago and I’ve been nurturing it all through the years,” the 35-year-old Reggae Blues singer said at the unveiling of his music company, Altar Plate, in Ikeja, Lagos.
He told journalists that: “I am excited about so many things but I must say that I am privileged to have metamorphosed into the man I am today; seeing my long awaited dream come to a reality.
“As a musician, I have invested so much in building the brand Harrysong, I have ferried across many waters in the course of my career and today, I can humbly say, it’s paying off.
Harrysong said having his own music company was his biggest aspiration and described it as another first for Nigeria in the music scene.
“Given my deep rooted background in music and my continued love for the art, my biggest aspiration had always been to run a well together music company.
“While I nursed and held on to that dream over the years, I have had the opportunity of working with top decision makers in the Nigerian music industry from Question Mark records to Five Star Music.”
Harrysong last weekend announced his exit from Five Star, a record label owned by Emeka Okonkwo, brother of KCee, ‘Limpopo’ singer.
Alter Plate would be the singer’s third record label, having worked with the now defunct Question Mark before joining Five Star Music.
