The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) School of Music, in partnership with the MTN Foundation, has celebrated the graduation of its 2025 diploma students.
The ceremony was recently held at the Shell Zenith Bank Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
The event marked the culmination of two years of rigorous music training for the 39 graduates, who were beneficiaries of the MTN Foundation–MUSON Scholarship Programme.
This initiative provides full scholarships for world-class music education, empowering aspiring musicians to refine their talents and build professional careers in music.
Speaking at the event, Mosun Olusoga, chairman of the MTN Foundation, praised the graduates for their perseverance and camaraderie in overcoming personal and financial challenges.
“Despite personal and financial obstacles, you showed up with determination, supported one another and embodied the values of excellence and empathy,” she said.
“You are stepping into the world as teachers, performers and cultural advocates. Nigeria and the world need your music now more than ever.”
In her address, Banke Ademola, director of the MUSON School of Music, described the graduating students as ambassadors of discipline, creativity, and cultural excellence.
She encouraged them to use their craft as a force for positive change.
“Today, we are not just sending graduates into the world; we are releasing ambassadors of discipline, creativity, and cultural excellence,” she said.
“Each of you has proven that with hard work and resilience, music can transcend challenges and inspire change. Go out there and let your music heal, connect, and transform lives.”
On his part, Louis Mbanefo, chairman of MUSON’s board of trustees, highlighted the programme’s enduring impact, noting that over 500 graduates have emerged from the initiative, enriching Nigeria’s cultural landscape and beyond.
“Through the generosity of MTN and the dedication of our faculty, MUSON has produced more than 500 graduates who are making significant contributions to Nigeria’s cultural scene and beyond,” he said.
“As you join this vibrant alumni community, remember your responsibility to give back, uphold excellence and enrich the nation’s musical heritage.”
Launched in 2006, the scholarship provides full financial support — covering tuition, books, and transportation — for a two-year diploma at the MUSON School of Music.
The programme offers specialised training in various instruments, including piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, classical guitar, as well as vocal training.
