2Baba, the ace singer, has tackled Nigerians who criticise celebrities over their candidate of choice.
Nigerians will go to the polls on February 25 to elect a new president. A total of 18 candidates will participate in the presidential election.
But four candidates are leading the race for the election.
They include Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPC).
There have been disputes over celebrities’ choice of candidates ahead of the polls. The online confrontations in the past weeks also involved the likes of Brymo, Peter Okoye, and Seun Kuti among others.
Speaking in pidgin English in an Instagram video, the ace musician slammed people who force their candidates on celebrities, describing them as “fools”.
2Baba also wondered why some adults still expect people to choose candidates for them.
“Omo nobody dey do us o. Na we dey do ourselves. From religion to our education system. You understand? Na the physics textbook wey dem dey use from 1960 dem still dey use till today. Everything dey upgrade, you still dey do theory. Till you graduate you never still na theory,” he said.
“Omo we need to change am. Our value system. Every election, everybody forget sey no be about the president. Na from top to bottom. We need to hold all of them accountable.
“You be agbalagba – old person. You don grow finish. You still need person to come tell you who to vote for. Dem go con think sey you don make one brilliant statement. You dey attack celebrities left right and center. You be fool. Do they need to tell you again? Con write speech. Dey feel very very intelligent. You dey sey why person sitdown for fence.
Several figures in the entertainment industry, as well as brand influencers, have been vocal about their preferred candidates.
Some of them, however, remain on the fence while also using their platforms to sensitise the citizens on the need to get their permanent voters card (PVC).
