UNHCR is an agency targeted at protecting refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people by assisting their voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement to a third country.

According to a statement on Tuesday by the agency, 2Baba becomes the first Nigerian to be appointed as a UNHCR goodwill ambassador.

The award-winning singer also took to his Instagram page to break the good news, stating that it would deepen his commitment to supporting the efforts of all UNHCR personnel.

Having debuted his first studio album in 2004, 2Baba, who is also called Tuface, has been one of the most decorated, bankable, and successful Afropop artists within Africa’s music space.

The 44-year-old had, in 2018, declared his interest in running for a political office, although he neither specified what political platform he would opt for nor what level he would be pursuing.
