An Accounting student identified as Fatima Andat has been named the overall best graduate at Covenant University (CU) for 2022.
According to NAN, the institution in Ota, Ogun state had a ceremony on Friday that saw the graduation of a total of 1,934 students.
Abiodun Adebayo, the vice-chancellor of the institution, spoke at the event which is the institution’s 17th convocation.
He also presided over the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees and the presentation of prizes to graduates.
The VC said CU produced 206 graduates with first-class honours in 2022, representing 12.28 percent.
He said the varsity recorded 744 second-class upper honours, representing 44.36 percent; 620 second-class lower honours, representing 36.97 percent; 107, representing 6.38 percent in the third class; and 257 post-graduate students.
Adebayo said the figures are evidence that CU has become a leading varsity in two decades, emerging as the best private university in Nigeria.
“In just two decades of its existence, Covenant University has become a leading world-class university and the best higher education destination for students in Africa,” the VC said.
“In addition, Covenant University emerged as the best university out of the 111 private universities in Nigeria by the Prestige Nigeria Education.”
Speaking at the convocation, David Oyedepo, the chancellor of the institution, charged the graduates to be responsible and committed to their vision.
“Life begins with a vision, no one arrived at a future he or she does not prepare for. It is time to wake up and take responsibility early because commitment to one’s vision is what is called responsibility,” he said.
