The 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has finally commenced in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.
According to the timetable released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the exam will hold between May 16 and June 24.
It is understood that a total of 1,607,975 candidates from 20,221 Nigerian schools registered for this year’s examination.
TheCable Lifestyle examines major highlights from the timetable — for Nigerian candidates — as the highly-anticipated exercise begins.
The timetable shows Mathematics (essay and objective) will hold on June 2, while English Language (essay, objective and orals) is scheduled for June 9.
Further breakdown of the timetable indicates Government, Literature-in-English, and Geography are to hold on June 22, 16, and 3 respectively.
It also shows Physics (essay and objective) will hold on June 15 while Chemistry (essay and objective) and Biology (essay and objective) are billed for June 8 and 10.
Christian Religious Studies (CRK), and Islamic Studies are both fixed for June 8.
Patrick Areghan, WAEC head in Nigeria, had earlier spoken on how the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic initially took a toll on the exam body’s calendar.
“The revert to May/June period for the conduct of the examination should be celebrated,” he had said.
“The significance of this is that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the various member States, save Ghana, have now again found a common ground in respect of their academic calendars.
“This shows a massive recovery from the devastating effects, disruptions and confusion caused by the pandemic.”
