The award ceremony took place during the 59th annual meeting of the Nigeria national committee of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Thursday.

Five students of the private school, located at Eke-Owerri in Obingwa LGA of the state, had As across all subjects in last year’s edition of the exam.

Nwaozuzu Confidence, one of the students of the school who had nine As, also came third in the national distinction/merit category.

In the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), TEDA also recorded a 100 percent pass with no re-sit in any subjects.

At the event, Godson Dinneya, TEDA’s founder, commended the staff of the school for the feat despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The year in question was the COVID-19 year. Schools were shut. We struggled with how to give our students the best preparations for the examination,” he said.

“The awards come with their own challenges to do more. The Class of 2020 has raised the threshold at TEDA for the teachers for the students, for all of us.”

Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia state governor, had earlier awarded scholarships to the five students of the school who made nine straight As to any university of their choice in Nigeria.
