The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has partnered with the Lagos state government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Rico Swavey, the 2018 BBNaija housemate.

Swavey died last Thursday — a few days after he was involved in a ghastly car accident.

The reality star’s death has been met with a chorus of condemnation since footage of his last moments surfaced online

Some of Rico’s fans had accused the staff of Doren Specialist Hospital in Lagos of recording the footage but the facility dismissed the allegations.

In the wake of the controversies trailing his death, the Lagos government earlier announced it has commenced an investigation into the matter.

In a statement on Monday, the Lagos chapter of the NMA said it remains committed to unraveling the identities behind the “unethical filming” of Swavey’s last moments.

The statement was signed by Benjamin Olowojebutu, and Ismail Ajibowo, the Lagos zone NMA chairman and secretary respectively.

The association also called on the public to exercise caution until the investigation is concluded.

“We want to appeal to the general public that we allow all statutory bodies that have the power to investigate the matter to conclude their findings and give a detailed report,” the statement reads.

“Passing a guilty verdict on healthcare workers before the investigation is concluded will not do any good to anybody.

“We appeal for calm and let us allow the law to take its course.”
