BathKandy, a beauty company, has vowed to sue beauty entrepreneur Lola OJ, over the controversy surrounding Gummy Soap, a collaboration between both parties.

Lola OJ had alleged that she came up with the idea of Gummy Soap, and that the company bought into it and subsequently went into production.

In a video released on social media earlier in the week, she said the company removed her name from the product which was initially known as ‘BathKandy Lola’s Gummy Soap’.

“I would just like to express that this above product ‘Gummy Soap’ is in no way affiliated or endorsed by me, as you can see they have purposely removed my name and are now trying to pass off this product to customers and wholesalers that I have built relationships with as their own totally,” the beauty entrepreneur had said in the video.

“This new ‘Gummy Soap’ has nothing to do with me, though they are attempting to sell the same product the same container and pretty much the same name when people ask for ‘BathKandy Lola’s Gummy Soap’.

“If you remember, I created a video called Black Soap or not. That’s when I realised that people found it interesting. That’s basically how the idea came about. Of course we tweaked it from my family recipes a bit.

“For the first couple of months, everything was good. The product was steadily doing well. We were both making money from it. They had issues with how I was promoting it and so I emailed them for directions on how they want to me to promote it. The email never came. Then their tone changed a little bit.”

Lola OJ further noted that she reached out to BathKandy when she learned that they wanted to “discontinue this product”.

“Let’s set a date so that it’s not hostile to the public. Let people know that it’s the last time to buy it,” she added.

But BathKandy told TheCable Lifestyle that it solely owns the Gummy Soap brand.

The company said that it had an agreement with Lola OJ to go into partnership for a limited edition promotional product for six months.

According to BathKandy, a formal termination came into effect on June 1.

The beauty company also claims that “the recipes, ingredients, the process of production, skill, manpower and packaging of the product are entirely owned by BathKandy CO”.

BathKandy says it has taken steps to seek legal redress, and that its lawyers have written Lola OJ a letter of demand.

“We do not wish to join issues with Lola OJ on social media and have since instructed our lawyers to review the situation and advise accordingly,” the company said.

When contacted, representatives of Lola OJ told TheCable Lifestyle that she has nothing more to add to what she explained in the video.

BathKandy, in its letter of demand to Lola OJ, asked her to apologise and retract her claims via a 2-minute video and a post of not less than 300 words – vetted by them.

She was also asked to write an open letter of apology and to take down the posts and videos where she made the alleged false claims.
