Okeleke Elumelu, the late Nigerian musician better known as Ras Kimono, has commenced his journey to his final resting place.

The body of the veteran singer arrived at the COSON head office for his lying in state on Friday.

Majek Fashek, Tony Okoroji, Orits Wiliki and many other veteran musicians were present to pay homage to the late Kimono.

A wake keep service was subsequently held in his family compound in Onitsha Olona, Asaba, Delta state.

The ‘Rhumba Stylee’ singer died on June 10 at a hospital in Lagos.

Born in May 1958, Ras Kimono had his first musical exposure with The Jastix, a group which comprised Amos McRoy, Black Rice Osagie and Majek Fashek.

The musician would later, on his own, release a debut album, ‘Under Pressure’, in 1989.

During the course of his career, he toured Africa, Europe and the US with his Massive Dread Reggae Band.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday.
