The pair have established themselves as household names in the Nigerian entertainment landscape. They also command huge followers on social media platforms.

But there are claims that there has been no love lost between them for years.

In an interactive session on Instagram, fans of AY had asked him to address his rumoured frosty relationship with Basketmouth.

“Do you really have any issues with Basketmouth?” a user had asked.

Responding, the 50-year-old, born Ayo Makun, wrote: “I don’t have issues with Basketmouth. But people having unnecessary issues with you are the price you sometimes pay for being progressive.”

He also claimed avoiding Basketmouth, whose real name is Bright Okpocha, is necessary for his sanity.

“He has been battling with an uncontrollable superiority complex for the longest. So, avoiding his incessant childishness only became necessary for my own sanity,” he added.

When further asked if both of them don’t talk to each other, he replied: “we only talk to those who want to talk to us. Does this make sense?”

Basketmouth is yet to react to AY’s comment as of the time of this report.

In August 2021, Basketmouth had also opened up about his alleged rift with AY, saying “he messed with loyalty”.
